Eligibility Requirements:
Immigrations Status:
Have valid immigration status (work permit or implied status),
Must Meet the Minimum Requirements for the Express Entry:
An active Express Entry profile in the federal pool.
Meeting criteria of at least one of the federal immigration programs: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, or Federal Skilled Trades Program.
A primary occupation that is in demand or aligned with Alberta’s economic priorities.
You intend to and be able to live and work permanently in Alberta and have stated an interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta
A Comprehensive Ranking System score of at least 300.
You are neither a refugee claimant nor subject to a federal appeal or removal process
You do not have an active nomination under any AAIP stream
Your primary occupation is not on the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list
Work Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 12 months of full-time work experience in a tech-related occupation within the last 18 months. This experience can be from within Alberta, elsewhere in Canada, or internationally.
Qualifying Work Experience:
Must be in a full-time role, at least 30 hours per week.
Should come with reference letters.
Needs to align with eligible tech occupations, typically falling under NOC TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3. Please review list of eligible Accelerated Tech Pathway occupations
Your employer is from these industries AAIP list of eligible North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes
Unqualified Work Experience:
Part-time, casual or seasonal employees, regardless of their working hours
Independent contractors or temporary agency workers
Employees who do not work in Alberta, such as those who work online from a location outside Alberta or who work at a premises outside of Alberta
Wage requirements:
Meets provincial minimum wage, and
Meets or exceeds the requirements set out in your Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or if you are LMIA exempt or do not have an LMIA, meets or exceeds the lowest starting wage for your occupation across all industries in Alberta
Language Proficiency: The required language benchmark varies based on the job offer but generally expects a proficiency conducive to a professional working environment in the tech industry.
Licensing and Certification: While not all tech roles require licensing, some specialized positions may necessitate professional certification or accreditation.
Educational Credential Assessment (ECA): Necessary for applicants without Canadian education, to validate foreign credentials.
Costs and Benefits: The application fee is CAD 840 for online applications. This fee is non-refundable and covers the cost of processing the application. Although this can vary, the average processing time for applications submitted through the AAIP online portal is around 4 to 6 months. The Alberta Tech Pathway aligns with the Alberta Opportunity Stream, providing a cost-effective route to Canadian permanent residency. Successful applicants gain the ability to work and live in Alberta permanently, contributing to the province’s dynamic tech ecosystem.
