FAQ

  • You can immigrate to Canada through either temporary or permanent residency.

    Temporary residency:

    • Visit

    • Study

    • Work

    Permanent residency:

    • Express Entry

    • Family Sponsorship

    • Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds

  • Processing time depends on the specific application type and the volume of applications currently being processed by Canadian immigration. Typically, the range can span from 6-12 months, yet in some cases, the duration may be shorter or longer.

  • In Canada, there are two primary routes for working and living in the country, one being temporary and the other providing a direct route to permanent residency. The process of obtaining a temporary work permit involves four steps:

    1. The employer first applies for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

    2. Once the LMIA is granted, the employer can provide the foreign worker with a Temporary Job Offer

    3. Next, the foreign worker applies for a Work Permit

    4. Finally, the Work Permit is issued.

To acquire permanent residency, one may apply via the Express Entry Program, specifically through one of the following programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Furthermore, provinces and territories have the ability to select candidates from the Express Entry pool to meet local labour needs.

  • In order to be able to work in Canada, foreign nationals are generally required to obtain a work permit. However, there are certain circumstances under which one may be permitted to work in Canada without a work permit.

There are two main types of work permits:

    1. Open work permit: This allows you to work for any employer in Canada, but it is only available under specific conditions.

    2. Employer-specific work permit: This type of permit is also known as a closed work permit, and it restricts you from working for a specific employer, in a specific location, and for a specific period of time.

Another way for individuals from other countries to work in Canada is through the International Experience Canada program, also known as a Working Holiday Visa. You can find more information about this program, including eligibility requirements, processing times and fees on the government website.

International students studying in Canada may also be eligible to work. Some study permits to permit the holder to work either on or off-campus while still in school. However, after graduation, a student will need to apply for a work permit or apply for a Post-graduate Work Permit (PGWP) or apply for permanent residence.

  • Express Entry (EE) is a popular online system used to apply for immigration to Canada as a skilled worker. The process begins by creating an Express Entry profile that will be used to evaluate and rank your qualifications. This profile can be used to apply for:

    • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program: This program is for those who have significant work experience and/or high level of education and are looking for permanent immigration to Canada.

    • Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program: This program is for skilled tradespeople who want to immigrate to Canada.

    • Canadian Experience Class: This program is for foreign nationals who have been working in Canada for at least one year and want to apply for Permanent Residence (PR).

    • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

The Express Entry program is one of the most sought-after and efficient ways to apply to immigrate to Canada.
